The figures themselves, especially crossed with the sheet, look similar to deep sea fish, (although they do not appear to be), but the title references the Greek legend of Icarus (who escaped his prison with his sons by building pairs of wax wings, only for them to melt after one of the sons flew too close to the sun). Ink lines of varying length and width are used for definition and visual distinction, but the lack of spatial context makes it seem almost adrift.
