Icarus and Sons,, (October 1958)

Dates

  • (October 1958)

Scope and Contents

Lubell 2/4: 23

Ink drawing of three figures on a black sheet, with white ink for outlines and light sections of blue and yellow for color and definition. The figures themselves, especially crossed with the sheet, look similar to deep sea fish, (although they do not appear to be), but the title references the Greek legend of Icarus (who escaped his prison with his sons by building pairs of wax wings, only for them to melt after one of the sons flew too close to the sun). If they are stylized depictions of the legend, then the black background makes it harder to discern, while the three figures are the only part of the picture that seems related to the legend at all. Drawn on black paper.
