Abstract:

George Howes Whittle, Associate Arts Editor for Century and Saint Nicholas magazines, and one of the engravers loosely known as the New American School of Wood Engraving. This is a collection he assembled of wood engraving tools and a visor, ascribed to engraver Timothy Cole, and wood blocks prepared for engraving, as well as a photocopied article on Timothy Cole written by George Howes Whittle.

This collection contains an interview with Benny Goodman in 1971 along with interviews from Lionel Hampton, Toots Mondello, John Bunch, Hymie Schertzer, and Jimmy Maxwell regarding Goodman. There is a list of quotes about Goodman, a handwritten letter addressed to George Pima along with an essay on Benny Goodman by Barry Farrell.

The Harry B. Weiss Chapbook Collection comprises some 880 chapbooks dating from the late 18th through the mid 19th Centuries, as well as a selection of peripheral material. These chapbooks represent the collecting interests of Harry B. Weiss, and focus on British and, to a lesser extent, American chapbooks, with other examples from Germany, Italy and Mexico.
