Scope and Contents
Lubell 455
Cut plywood block with narrow uncut strip. Title “Ishtar” on side edge of block. Fertility goddess, wearing hat and leading a mythological animal (possibly a griffin; it has a lion's head and bird wings). In her hands is a 7-pointed flower (with an eighth possibly obscured from our perspective); this is likely a reference to the 8-pointed star associated with her. Panels of hieroglyphics. Colors: with the exception of a few blues and greens, the majority of the piece uses warm colors, particularly reds and yellows. Red and black are used for the side borders, and red, brown, and grey for the top and bottom borders. See print titled Ishtar with Lotus, Lubell 88 (Box 6, Folder 10).
