This collection is made up of audio interviews conducted by Ira Gitler related to his book Swing to Bop: An Oral History of the Transition in Jazz in the 1940s . This collection contains eleven open reel tapes, nineteen audiocassettes, and seven CDs. It includes interviews with Art Blakey, Cozy Cole, Mel Lewis, Joe Albany, Budd Johnson, and Cannonball Adderly.

Abstract:

Dr. Irving Kull was a professor at Rutgers University in the History Department from 1918 until his retirement in 1954. Boxes 7, 8 and 9 of his papers include correspondence regarding the Department of History, departmental budgets, grade books and student lists, an unpublished manuscript on "New Jersey and the Constitution," and various photos of buildings and other architectural items.

This collection contains thirty-one 13x19 inch photographic prints of famous jazz musician gravesites. The photographs were used for the book Jazz Lives: Till We Shall Meet and Never Part . These prints are on archival paper and have the print date written on them. A few have inscriptions. The gravestones of musicians include Lester Young, Miles Davis, Bessie Smith, Fletcher Henderson, Sidney Bechet, Johnny Hodges, and Duke Ellington.

This collection contains sheet music, handwritten lyrics, and pages of a scrapbook. Also included are personal photographs, some items of memorabilia, and a history of WNEW booklet. The collection also includes a few large plaques and framed portraits.
