Scope and Contents
The collection comprises Michael Bourne's audio recordings and jazz-related ephemera. It contains 354 cassette tapes, eighty-two CDs, four open reel tapes, five DATs, and two VHS tapes. The recorded material includes demo recordings sent to Bourne, Bourne's music, recordings of Bourne/WBGO programming, autographed copies of CDs and vinyl records, and commercially and non-commercially available jazz recordings.
The jazz-related ephemera from this collection includes jazz festival programs, flyers, and promotional materials from North America, Europe, and Asia. The autographed CDs in this collection come from Jimmy Scott, Deborah Henson Conant, Barbara Carroll, Claire Daly, David Brubeck, Caecilie Norby, Abbey Lincoln, Danilo Perez, and Keely Smith. The vinyl record autographs include Jackie and Roy, Carol Fredette, Miles Davis, Poncho Sanchez, Herbie Hancock, Collin Walcott, Ralph Towner, Paul McCandless, Jon Mark, Johnny Almond, Barbara Lea, Bob Dorough, Stanley Cowell, Tony Banda, David Romero, Ramon Banda, Marlene VerPlanck, J. William "Billy" VerPlanck, Percy Heath, Dave Baker, Herschel Gilbert, John Scofield, Janis Siegel, Tim Hauser, Harvey Philips, Ashley Alexander, and Robin Eubanks.
