Scope and Contents
This collection includes interviews, correspondence, and recorded performances related to the life and career of clarinetist Perry Robinson. The collection materials formed the basis of research for Robinson's autobiography The Traveler, co-written by Florence Wetzel. The collection contains fifty-four cassette recordings of interviews conducted by Florence Wetzel between February 16, 1997 and December 27, 2001. The interview subjects include Perry Robinson, James Mastro, John Fische, Ed Schuller, and Arnie Wise. The collection also contains partial interview transcripts with Perry Robinson, as well as, emails and correspondence regarding the autobiography's manuscript. Correspondence participants include Jerry Bergonzi, Ernst Bier, Chris Brubeck, Darius Brubeck, Bill Dixon, Michael Fitzgerald, and Lou Grassi. The collection also includes seven 7-inch open reels, including unreleased recordings from February 14, 1970 with Paul Motian, studio recordings with Josh Miller, and a 1984 live recording of the clarinet ensemble Liqoric Factory at the Blue Note.
