Scope and Contents

The Bob Porter collection includes business records for recording labels, including Atlantic Records. There are published and unpublished liner notes and record reviews. Also included are audio interviews with Herbie Hancock, Sonny Rollins, and other musicians. The collection comprises recording industry ephemera, concert programs, funeral programs, and published obituaries. The collection also includes 128 audiocassettes, six compact discs, two 5 inch audiotape reels, and thirty-six 7 inch audiotape reels. Correspondence, circa 1968-2005, includes letters from Ross Russell, Red Rodney, and Norman Grantz. There are programs from music conferences and performance festivals as well as award nomination ballots. The collection also includes an award from the NY Blues and Jazz Society in recognition of the 25th anniversary of Porter's Portraits in Blue radio program.
