Professional Papers and Awards, 1961-2011

Series 1 contains Andrew Hill’s dated and undated professional papers and awards. The dated items range from 1961-2007 and include correspondence, press kits, contracts, clippings, concert flyers, travel documentation, photographs, business cards, and discographies. This series also contains items relating to his tours and concerts, including his 1996 Australian tour, Alice Tully Hall concerts from 1997, the 2000 San Francisco Jazz Festival, Berlin Jazz Festival and Kennedy Center programs from 2002, a brochure with clippings from his final concert at Trinity Church in 2007, and many others. This series contains Hill’s resume and press biography from 1998, press kits from various years, numerous clippings from Palmetto Records about Andrew Hill’s recordings, and legal documents including correspondence, contracts, and licensing documentation from companies including BMI and Blue Note Records. This series also contains documents concerning Project Acculturation from 1994, Hill’s Chamber Music America grant request from 2000, Civitella Ranieri Foundation materials from 2000, and his 2007 honorary doctorate and commencement-related materials from Berklee College of Music. A discography from 2001, written by Alain Dupuy Rafuste, is also contained in this series.
