Bud Powell's funeral (1 of 5), 1966
Dates
- 1966
Scope and Contents
The beginning of the audio has poor sound quality and is a performance by tenor sax, electronic piano, bass, and drums. The performance might be the group from the Jazzmobile led by Bill Taylor at Bud Powell's funeral. This followed by crowd noise, then a few seconds of the electronic piano, then audio from a television report about Powell's funeral. The reporter mentions that a group from Jazzmobile led by Billy Taylor performed there, and that Powell died a week ago and would be buried tomorrow. This is followed by long silence, then at 5:12 a few seconds of intermittent music similar to the beginning of the recording.
