Dates
- 1947-1956
Scope and Contents
Summary: This series follows the activities of the special committee from its inception until the bill for reorganization was passed in the New Jersey legislature. It outlines progress of the Committee, proposals, dissenting votes and ultimate legislative action. It contains view points of members including those opposing the Committee's majority vote to accept reorganization. Correspondence from legal counsel offers advice for the most advantageous handling of the Board of Trustees' properties, as well as areas of concern regarding the proposal, and communication with State legal counsel. Included are proofs of the proposed bill forwarded to members of the Special Committee on Reorganization of the Board of Trustees for suggestions and changes, and mark-up copies. The legal documents establish the current status of Rutgers University within the sate and the laws pertaining to that status, as well as civil court claims documenting legal action taken by the Board of Trustees to insure declaratory judgment before the bill was introduced into the Senate.
