Scope and Contents
Summary: The General Information and Correspondence subseries (1960-1993) consists of material relating to the time McCormick served on the Society's Board of Trustees, from which he resigned in November 1985. It includes correspondence, memoranda, and reports submitted to the Board from various departments and committees—the Search Committee, the Education Committee, the Nominating Committee, the Museum Committee, the library, and accounting department.
The "Subject Files" (1950-1989) include meeting minutes and agendas, annual and other reports, publications, committee information, studies, directories, and program information. It contains a copy of 1950 Alexander Report, which consists of correspondence, circulars, and a survey report of the New Jersey Historical Society by Dr. Edward P. Alexander, Director of Interpretation at Colonial Williamsburg, and was solicited by the Society on the advice of McCormick. On being appointed President of the Society, McCormick's role was to evaluate the findings and implement the recommendations found in the 1950 report.
