Scope and Contents

Summary: The "Correspondence" subseries includes correspondence regarding events at which McCormick was invited to speak. Letters to McCormick regarding speaking engagements and McCormick's responses to them are arranged chronologically according to responses. The initial piece of correspondence is located after the responses if they were originally found together.

The "Outlines" subseries contains outlines of speeches, many of which are found in the Speeches subseries, however a number are not dated.

The "Speeches" folders are arranged chronologically and contain copies of speeches given by McCormick on various occasions. See Appendix A for the list of speeches.

The "Miscellaneous" files include various draft versions of "The Imperfect Union" (which was read by McCormick at the Commonwealth Fund and Colloquium, January 29-30, 1970), as well as correspondence related to the event, a program of the colloquium, and informational material about the colloquium. The file also contains a flyer for an April 12, 1990 talk in Newark on the topic of politicians in New Jersey, as well as his research notes and speech outline. Also included are two folders containing material from the Symposium given May 25, 1982 in honor of McCormick's retirement. The folders include two copies of McCormick's "Comment and Response."

Arrangement

Arrangement: The Speaking Engagements series is divided into four subseries: A. Correspondence, B. Speech Outlines, C. Speeches, and D. Miscellaneous. They are arranged alphabetically or chronologically. Those folders with no dates or identification, were left in original order and marked as undated on the folder title.
