The woman’s left arm is positioned so that it appears to be holding part of the baby that has not been drawn. On the verso are preliminary sketches of the woman’s hand and the baby’s nose.

Light pen strokes are used for outlines and line patterns, but the dominant material is the grayscale watercolors, which are used both for definition on the figure but the shading around her. Dated April 10, ‘67. Lubell 242 and 254 appear to be of the same subject and were painted the same day.

Interest is heightened by the extensive watercolor use – purple, orange, and various pinks and browns. Like many of these portraits, the details falls off significantly the further it gets away from the subject’s head.
