Scope and Contents: Lubell 1/2: 210 A multiple-material collage of board, rice paper, photograph cutouts, and pieces of gold leaf that create a smorgasbord of images of female divinity and fertility. Statues of female goddesses foreground a large watercolor collage within the collage of a woman (expressionist in style), surrounded by shadow. An abstract depiction of what might be a pregnant woman lies on the left side, while the title is bordered on the top and bottom by gold leaf. 37.6...

Scope and Contents: Lubell 1/3: 211 Collage, foregrounded over a photograph of the sky, of two cherub angels (from a copy of a detail from the Sistine Madonna by Raphael) next to a Greek statue (with a different statue's head, cape, and left lower leg). They are arranged on a set of sets (pictures of rectangles with different patterns), all in the shadows of a large older clay vase with women’s features. The latter is made to look larger by comparison to the other...

Monochromatic gray collage of a few culturally and stylistically-distinct statues set in a pencil drawing of a non-figural, amorphous shape. Scope and Contents: Lubell 1/3: 213 Collage depicting a Hindu god with multiple heads and arms, holding a variety of ornaments and creatures aloft from a cloud on red strings (all of which are thread tied to holes in the objects). With the exception of two photographs of statues (for two of the heads), all of the cutouts appear to be drawings – mostly in ink, with a number of paint or board colors – including the clouds, which have a pattern of undulating blue and grey lines. Figures include the...

Scope and Contents: Lubell 1/3: 214 Elaborate collage of a vaguely-defined religious scene, with pinks and oranges as the predominant colors. A large number of distinct cutouts are used – photographs of statues (mostly animals, along with a goddess) and rock formations, various line and color patterns, and watercolor drawings ripped and placed seemingly haphazardly. The end result is a multi-layered, surprisingly visually consistent array of colors and shapes that create a nice, if structurally...

Lubell 1/3: 215

This collage is dominated by a large pencil drawing of a confusing structure, with little contiguous definition, shape, or apparent purpose. In front of it are four cutout photographs of different statues, all of which appear to be religious in nature. At least two of them are figures, likely goddess statues, but another is a five-pointed figure, likely an extremely abstract depiction of a woman.

Scope and Contents: Lubell 1/4: 216a-b A collage of cutout photographs of various Greek statuary – stonework, a bust, a cup, to name a few – placed in front of a large ink drawing (that looks like stone or oak, but whose red color makes it look like a fire). Lubell 216a is the original and 216b is a photocopy. The date reads "July 18, Truro." Signed W.M. Lubell. A [price? number?] sticker on the original plastic wrapping for 216a read “28.” 216a – 26.6 x 21.4 cm 216b – 27.9 x...

Scope and Contents: Lubell 1/4: 217 Collage of various cut out pieces of paper with ink drawings of a forest clearing or shrine. Many of the shapes appear to be either trees, lichen, or antlers, with black paper for a silhouetted horizon and a brown-white-black frond pattern as the foreground. The center of the piece is of a female totem, with horns and a head that appears similar to many African mask designs. Ink colors are brown, grey, yellow, blue. Pieces are arranged on brown paper. Signed...

Collage of a group of mourning women, mostly wearing black head scarves, placed behind a cutout ceramic maternal figure and in front of a background that appears to be of ancient Mesopotamian art. The women appear almost contiguous, forming a larger single figure. Signed Winifred Milius Lubell.

Lubell 1/4: 219

Collage of a Medieval woman. The piece, organized on a bedding of [woven paper?] on an olive green board, has numerous vertical cuts, splitting what was presumably a single reproduction into multiple long rectangular pieces. Some other pieces, either from an unrelated image or a totally distinct part of the original, are placed on the left side haphazardly. Winifred Milius Lubell.
