Scope and Contents
Teunis Denise Dubois was the son of the Rev. Benjamin Dubois (1739–1827) and Phoebe Denise (1743–1839). The Rev. Dubois was a long-serving pastor at the Old Brick Reformed Church in Marlboro, Monmouth County. Teunis first apprenticed to his older brother Joseph in New York City to learn the silversmithing trade. He then returned to Monmouth County, where he continued that trade until the Jeffersonian Embargo and the War of 1812 caused him to give it up. He then became a successful farmer. Benjamin Dubois was his son by second wife Sarah Smock (1786–1867).
