Scope and Contents

Summary: This series consists of six subseries.

Account Books (1838-1845, 1869-1877) comprise two folders. One book goes from 1838-1845 but who the account is with had faded. The other account included are with the following: Shinn & Conover for 1869, J.T. Burtis for 1872 and 1873, George W. Shinn for 1874, G.W. Shinn & Son 1875 and 1877, and E.B. Bedle for 1877. These include the articles, name, item and price. The majority of the entries are for household and farm goods.

Bank Book (1860-1872) comprise one folder. Bank book is with Freehold Banking Company. Record of Sidneys banking transactions.

Canceled Checks (1892) comprise one folder. This is made up of folder of 23 canceled checks for 1892 from the Freehold Banking Company.

Promissory Notes (1839, 1843-1860) comprise two folders. These are promises to pay money owed. Gives the date, amount of money, and time period for repayment. The sums owed vary from very small amounts to larger amounts. The lender of the money also varies greatly.

Receipts ( 1829-1833, 1838-1839, 1843-1887 and undated) comprise thirty nine folders. The majority of these are for household and farm goods such as; food, clothing, furniture, seed, tools, and equipment. Also included are receipts for farm taxes, tuition, and subscriptions to magazines and newspapers. There are some receipts on behalf of others such as a Mrs. Henrickson who was probably his mother-in-law.

Sale Of Property Book (1845) comprise one folder. It records the sale of some of his property on March 12, 1845. It gives the buyers name, items bought, and price. The last page is a list of payments made.
