Lubell 8/8: 286a-f

Woodcut print of the Erinyes from Greek mythology (also known as the Furies), female vengeance deities (the name "Semnai" comes from the ending to Aeschylus' Oresteia, after Athena renames them to reflect their change into protectors of justice). Six copies of the black and white woodcut depicting two winged women, one on the ground and one in the air, flanked by multiple animals and symbols (wheels, crosses and swastikas). The woman on the ground is leading a lion forward by its tail, while the one in the sky has two birds flying over her. 286a-b are titled and signed Winifred Milius Lubell. 286a also has “KOZO” written in the lower left corner. 286c is identified as “Proof 1.” 286d-f are photocopies of another printing of this same image.
