Lubell 7/1: 147a-d

Four copies of a woodblock portrait of a woman standing and looking back toward figures in the background. She is holding sacks, one containing a tree or plant. In the background, three figures are slowly carrying large furniture pieces across an ill-defined expanse. Lubell 147a and 147b are primarily black, with a vertical wash of gray and green for leaves and ground. Lubell 147c and 147d have only the black block print and omit the vertical wash and the color. Lubell 147a is mounted on heavier paper, is signed W. Lubell 1940 and is titled A Long Story or No Happy Ending. Lubell 147b is printed on very thin rice paper, is signed W, Milius ’53 and titled Possessions. The other two prints are not signed or titled. Woodblock, titled Possessions (Lubell 477, Box 34).
