Scope and Contents

Lubell 6/16: 115

Colored white line woodcut print of three goddesses with a variety of avian imagery. Above them fly two birds, with either more birds or figures thereof on their heads. What appears to be wash coloring comes in red, orange, green, blue, and grey. Styles seem disparate and distinct, but all seem to be vaguely old. Position appears somewhat similar to the non-naturalist use of size in Egyptian art. Alternate titles noted on lower front: Homage to the Swallows or Homage from Karphi. Signed Winifred Lubell. See woodblock titled Bird [G?] [Crete?] (Lubell 411, Box 18).
