Lubell 6/16: 114a-b
Black and white woodcut print of the Erinyes from Greek mythology (also known as the Furies), female vengeance deities (the name "Semnai" comes from the ending to Aeschylus' Oresteia, after Athena renames them to reflect their change into protectors of justice). The piece depicts two winged women, one on the ground and one in the air, flanked by multiple animals and symbols (wheels, crosses and swastikas). The woman on the ground is leading a lion forward by its tail, while the one in the sky has two birds flying over her. Signed Winifred Milius Lubell. Print 114b is also numbered 15. See Lubell 286.
