Scope and Contents

Lubell 2/3: 20

Brown ink and pastel drawing (with gouache) of a clearing on the edge of a complex section of flora and forestry in the shadow of a giant, red mountain. An artificial or man-made structure – possibly a kind of stone fence – dots one side, while the chaotic forest is on the other. Extensive and varied line patterns can be seen throughout the piece, both small (the leaves on the trees near the center, the small branches on one of the larger dead trees) and large (the massive lines defining the mountain). Color is almost entirely in red and green, the former for the mountain and horizon, the latter for the clearing, and both for many of the plants. Painted on a page torn from an artist’s sketchbook.
