Brown ink and wash drawing (with pastel). A Spartan depiction of a row of dead trees, flanked by a magnificent mountain range. The latter is drawn only in very light wash, giving it (and, by extension, the horizon) a hazy impression. A small house, shown in light red, can be seen on the left side in the background, while the trees are deliberately poorly defined. Small plants, possibly weeds or grapevines, are sprouting between the latter. A large tear on the right side, and a smaller one is on the bottom, near the right corner were repaired in processing with methyl cellulose and rice paper. Painted on a pale tan page torn from an artist’s sketchbook.
