Scope and Contents
Lubell 2/1: 10
Black ink and wash drawing of a portion of land, with a section of road far to the distance. The material goes somewhat apart from other Lubell pieces by using different depth and width of its lines to simulate depth instead of line patterns and crosshatching. A tree in the right side of the piece, likely the most noticeable thing on the picture, uses a combination of thick and short lines (for the trunk and branches, respectively), along with splotch patterns for the leaves. Short lines are used for foreground grass and background telephone poles, with different levels of depth to create the image of distance. Painted on a page torn from an artist’s sketchbook.
