Scope and Contents
Report on accident which befell the Richmond and repairs needed. Discussion of floor cloths and coverlets for boats. I returned this morning from Rhode Island. Connecticut is now shut out from steam communication and all this arises from the proprietors of the grant refusing to lend their names to seize the United States under the penalty. The grant is in great jeopardy. Next winter will be a most serious one at Albany. Lynch and I think it advisable to commence negotiations immediately with Governor Ogden. The Fulton Company propose running to Rhode Island but have not arranged their plan.
