Received favor of 4th by Capt. Wiswall. Have sent for Capt. Center Fly went up yesterday with 28 passengers and returned this evening with 15 not being able to go beyond Newburgh due to ice in river. Timber arrived but from what Mr. Lockwood states, the quality and quantity will not satisfy. A suit in which Mr. Pinkne was engaged has been postponed so there is no danger of ours coming up this term. Lynch, Capt. Bunker, and Rhind endeavoring to produce a settlement with Gibbons 2nd John R. which we think can be accomplished. Advise endeavor to get the Committee to re-port that it was inexpedient at present to listen to the Petition against the grant, with further comment on subject.
