Ross 3/5 - 104a-i

Nine woodcuts representing different states of the printing process. A distant city with crenellated walls and domed roofs, seen across fields rendered in tan and rust. Three prints are black and white and six are black and white overlaid with earth tones. The three black and white prints show only the city and are on cream-colored Japanese paper: 104a is noted “B-W,” titled and signed John Ross, 104b-c are neither titled nor signed. Of the six woodcuts with earth tone overlay, three are artist’s proofs on mid-weight cream-colored paper: Ross 104d is “Proof EX,” Ross 104e, “A/P Trial,” is dated ’64, and Ross 104f is “Artists Proof.” Ross 104g-i, 40/75, 50/75 and 60/75, are on heavy cream-colored paper. All of the colored prints are signed John Ross.
