Goodman, Benny, 1909-1986

Scope and Contents:

This collection contains 396 reel-to-reel tapes of rare and unreleased performances compiled over four decades and donated by D. Russell Connor, a Benny Goodman biographer and discographer. It represents the most complete collection of Goodman recordings anywhere and includes reels from Goodman's personal archive, as well as those of many Goodman researchers and collectors worldwide. This collection was digitized as part of a grant from the Mellon Foundation.

Scope and Contents:

This collection contains an interview with Benny Goodman in 1971 along with interviews from Lionel Hampton, Toots Mondello, John Bunch, Hymie Schertzer, and Jimmy Maxwell regarding Goodman. There is a list of quotes about Goodman, a handwritten letter addressed to George Pima along with an essay on Benny Goodman by Barry Farrell.

Scope and Contents: This collection contains research files, notes, a scrapbook, book drafts, and television scripts. There are many files with biographical information on Art Landry and Benny Goodman. There are also materials on Nancy Cunard, Marion McPartland, Paul Whitman, Hal Kemp, Arthur Lange, Bert Kelly, and Mannie Klein.
