Abstract:

This collection consists of material created by Herbert H. Rowen, noted Dutch and Early Modern Historian and professor of history at Rutgers University. It includes copies of Rowen's published works, as well as copies of his Master's thesis and PhD dissertation; both from Columbia University. It also includes some research material of Rowen's as well as information about his scholarly activities and teaching career. It includes material in both English and Dutch

Abstract:

The Secretary of the University is the official records keeper for the Board of Governors, the University Trustees, and the University Senate. In addition, the Secretary of the University is responsible for giving public notice for all meetings. Karl E. Metzger was the Secretary of the University for 23 years, from 1950 until 1973. The collection consists of subject files.

Abstract:

Dr. Irving Kull was a professor at Rutgers University in the History Department from 1918 until his retirement in 1954. Boxes 7, 8 and 9 of his papers include correspondence regarding the Department of History, departmental budgets, grade books and student lists, an unpublished manuscript on "New Jersey and the Constitution," and various photos of buildings and other architectural items.

Scope and Contents: These scrapbooks were assembled by Kenneth R. Wheeler and consist primarily of news clippings, but also photographs and other ephemera. The collection documents Wheeler’s administrative career at Rutgers, beginning with his arrival in 1969 to become the new Dean of University College, as Provost of Academic Affairs (1972-1987), and as Senior Vice-President of Academic Affairs (1987-1991). Abstract:

Founded in 1857 by a group of interested students, the Natural History Society of Rutgers College enjoyed a short but active life under the direction of Professor George Cook. The records include founding documents such as the society's constitution, minutes, catalogs of donations to the society, bulletins , correspondence from honorary and corresponding members, financial records, and newspaper and other accounts of the society's activities.

Abstract:

Records of the Peithessophian Society, a student literary group founded at Rutgers College in 1825 for the intellectual broadening of its members. The Society ranged widely in membership size, probably over one hundred by the mid-19th century. It declined in membership after the Civil War, although it continued to exist until the late 1890's. It was revived briefly in the 1920's.
