Scope and Contents

This collection contains business records, correspondence, financial documents, personal notes, and journals. There are research files and correspondence related to his work as editor and publisher of Record Research magazine. Also included are discographical notes, publication materials, handbills, articles, and business files of the label, Spivey Records. There are also travel documents, press clippings, memorabilia, and papers documenting the career of Victoria Spivey. There are early photographs of jazz and blues performers and a scrapbook with information on 1920s orchestras.

This collection also consists of audiocassettes, 78s, and forty-nine audio reels. The majority of the recordings are test pressings, Spivey releases, and early jazz records.

This collection is partially open for access and research use. Boxes 1 and 4 are restricted due to physical condition. The audiovisual media in the collection are currently open for visual inspection only. Access copies for listening and/or viewing may be created on request, if possible.
