Scope and Contents

This collection comprises mainly music and papers. The music includes orchestra band parts, lead sheets, music manuscripts, and transcriptions of Wilson's music. There is also sheet music from other artists. There is correspondence and music sent to Wilson by other artists including Horace Silver and Marion McPartland. Also included are piano lesson books by Wilson from 1947 and a few other music instructional books.

The papers include business correspondence, contracts, a 1976 tour itinerary, and ephemera from some of his later concerts. There are press materials, photographs, headshots, and newspaper clippings, mostly from Wilson's later career. There are also some early studio photographs.

The artifacts in this collection include his passport, the memoriam book from his funeral, a Swiss flag, some textiles, and memorabilia from a 1983 Japanese tour, including photographs and autograph books written by fans. There are various awards and plaques along with photographs of Wilson receiving his Honorary Doctorate of Music from Berklee College of Music and a signed photograph from Jimmy Carter. There are scrapbooks documenting various tours (1980s) and a memory book filled with personal cards from his last partner. Also included are three VHS tapes of some performances.
