This is Linda Kuehl's unpublished biography of Billie Holiday.

Linda Kuehl (1940-1978) was a journalist, writer, and jazz scholar. She embarked on an ambitious Holiday biography, interviewing over 150 people who had known or worked with Holiday at different points of her life.

Arrangement Note

The Linda Kuehl Book Manuscript is arranged in one series by chapters set out by the author. The order of the chapters was maintained from the origial box in which the manuscript arrived at the Institute of Jazz Studies. Loose pages were collected and titled "Unidentified sections."

Related Material

Linda Kuehl's book was never published. British writer Julia Blackburn used Kuehl's research materials and interview transcripts for a book titled "With Billie" published by Pantheon Books in 2005. The Institute of Jazz Studies has a copy of the book.
