Scope and Contents
This collection represents a sample of Bob Inman's scrapbooks, which were featured in the book Swing Era Scrapbook: The Teenage Diaries and Radio Logs of Bob Inman, 1936-1938, published by the Institute of Jazz Studies and Scarecrow Press in 2006. The collection contains press photographs of big band leaders, singers, and orchestras from the 1930s. There are original and reproduction images of artists including Red Nichols, Vinnie Knight, Mal Hallett, Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey, Ruth Gaylor, Helen Ward, Edythe Wright, Bob Crosby, and Benny Goodman. Some of the photographs are autographed with personal inscriptions. There are also autographs on paper, ephemera from the Sussex jazz society, newspaper clippings, and correspondence from several artists. This collection also includes photographs from cruises in 1988, 1990, and 1991 on the S.S. Norway with jazz artists Dorothy Donegan, Joe Williams, and Dizzie Gillespie.
