Scope and Contents

The collection contains Herb Shultz's personal papers, including a 1920 Columbia Graphophone stock certificate, personal correspondence (1942-1996), playbills (1975-1992), newspaper clippings, and obituaries of jazz performers. There are also individual files on Duke Ellington, Ebubie Blake, Bessie Smith, and Alberta Hunter containing newspaper clippings, programs, and magazine articles. There is concert ephemera from Vassar College, as well as, audiocassette interviews (1951) of Louis Armstrong and Stan Kenton.
