Scope and Contents

From the Series:

Subseries 3.1-3.4 came from Sal Mosca's personal collection and include video cassettes, cassette tapes, compact discs, digital audio tapes, and open reel audio tapes. The titles of the audiovisual materials in subseries 3.1-3.4 are derived from labels on the media, their containers, or liner notes. Some audiovisual materials have date information that reflects both the original recording date and the date of reformatting. Subseries 3.5 consists of recordings digitized by Don Messina, which are described in detailed inventories that accompany this finding aid. Many of the original recordings contained in the first four subseries were transferred by Messina and are available on CD in subseries 3.5.

Other Finding Aids

The Guide to Digitized Sal Mosca Audiovisual Recordings details the recordings in subseries 3.5, including date, personnel, instrumentation, recording location, titles, and commercial releases. The guide compiles six separate inventories created by Don Messina, who digitized the recordings detailed in the guide. The original inventories are named below in the following box list and correspond to the separate section headings in the guide. Messina, a jazz bassist, performed with Mosca and worked closely with Mosca's associates and descendents to gather and research the recordings and create the guide.
