Recordings
Scope and Contents
This series contains an assortment of recordings that belonged to Ella Fitzgerald. The audio content consists of commercial releases, bootlegs, demo tapes, live performances, gifts, and mixtapes. Content dates between 1949 and 1991, though the majority of the cassettes are undated. Many of the tapes are recordings of friends, family, and colleagues like Ray Brown, Dizzy Gillespie, and Joe Pass, as well as Fitzgerald's own voice. Limited evidence suggests some of the tapes may have been originally given to a different person, including Norman Granz, before becoming part of the collection.
