Scope and Contents
This folder contains information on the American Civilization program. It was an interdepartmental major combining courses in history and literature. Documents included in this file include introduction to the major, list of classes to be taken to fulfill requirement, syllabuses for various classes, suggestions for revision of the program, reading lists for candidates for Honors in American Studies, various correspondences back and forth between departments and faculty members, appointment candidates for professors of American Civilization, recommendations of faculty members to be appointed, responsibilities and recommendations reports, minutes from the meetings of the American Civilization Committee, budget requests, teaching schedules for staff, estimated staff needs, decline of enrollment, and financial and academic problems with the major.
