Advising Manual, September,, 1961
Dates
- 1961
Scope and Contents
This folder contains information for advisors as well as for students including information and new rules for advisors about students transferring from other departments (because each college had different requirements and the student may have encountered problems). It also contained instructions and recommendations of the advisement procedure including: how to advise, who was eligible for advisement, looking over students records, and list of closed courses and schedule changes. A committee decision was made regarding students wishing to transfer allowed the transferring student not to have to complete any specific course required as a General Education Requirement so long as they had taken some of the other required classes. Other documents include brochure from the Office of the Dean from November 1, 1957, advising students on how to select their majors, courses, change majors, and understand the difference between a liberal education and vocational training. It gives a page of advice for each department in the College of Arts and Sciences, careers for each student to think about, continuing education, and a strong emphasis on a well rounded education. Memos updating faculty on new information and changes in the English department to help advise students included: Manual of policies, rules and regulations for academic advisement, list of advisors and English majors they were responsible for advising, pre-registration information, a lists of classes being offered, which classes and how many of each had to be taken, which classes required special permission or signatures from advisors or the Dean, which classes should be taken which year, which classes filled a particular requirement, registration deadlines and procedures for graduates and undergraduates, professors office hours for advisement, classes which were closed. Changes in the curriculum.
