Scope and Contents

Summary: The series documents the many academic areas Meder was involved in at Rutgers from his time as acting dean of Douglass College to his years as Vice Provost and dean of the university.

The number of files relating to academic disciplines and departments in this series demonstrates Meder's involvement with Rutgers faculty matters. Such departments include art, biology, botany, classics, economics, English, foreign languages departments, history, math, microbiology, philosophy, and zoology. There are also folders relating to proposed, and sometimes established, courses of study and institutes, such as an Institute for Arctic Studies.

The files pertaining to the Middle States Association Evaluation focus on Rutgers' reevaluation by the accrediting association, which took place in 1965 (some files pertain to earlier evaluations). The files indicate the extent of preparation and follow-up taken by Rutgers for these evaluations.

Other files in these series show Meder's engagement in the issues of nursing education, the ROTC, and issues of policy at Rutgers.
