Scope and Contents

These records include reports, correspondence, lists, information on honorary degrees and speakers, letters to accompany checks. Also, reservations for Trustees and Alumnae Luncheons, letters asking for approval of ushers for various functions and lists of costs of tickets and invitations. The reports on commencement include those from the chairmen of Yes and No Luncheon (discontinued in 1947), Class Day, Senior week, and often financial chairmen.

The Formal folders contain final copies of the invitations and tickets to Commencement, Baccalaureate Service, Commencement Week Events, Commencement Recital, etc. pasted on paper in scrapbook fashion. Up until a certain time, there existed a leather-bound book with all the events in it. Also included are the envelopes used and a red ribbon, which was used to tie around the rolled diploma.

The Informal folders contain an outline of where people sat at Commencement, processional outlines, lists of ushers and lists of prizes awarded. Also included are copies of some of the invitations, as well as lists of the degrees conferred. The form letters sent to various people, such as the faculty and alumnae, from the Dean's office are also included in this folder.

In the general folders for each year, groups of paper are often stapled together and kept in chronological order by the date of the page on top. Some, however, are kept in alphabetical order by subject, if it had been written on the top of the page. Some examples of these sections are Baccalaureate, Student Participation, Dean's Reception, excuses from service, alumnae representatives and requests for tickets to different events.
