Scope and Contents
These records are divided into two groups. The first group consists of minutes of the meetings of the committee and is not complete. There are small gaps in the early years and a four year gap between 1953 and 1957.
The second group consists primarily of correspondence between the Dean, the chairman of the committee, the secretary of the committee, and the committee members. The bulk of the records in this group falls between 1965 and 1970, filed chronologically with the most recent date at the front. Also present are reports, supplemental records, and newspaper clippings on topics of interest to the Trustees.
The Trustees' Committee on the New Jersey College for Women was created in 1932 as a successor to the Board of Managers. Its function has been an advisory one, reporting to the University Board of Trustees by way of an annual report from the chairman. The Dean, as well as the University President, are ex-officio members of the committee.
The Trustee's Committee has traditionally held an influential position in the progress and growth of the college and the relationship to the University as a whole. For this reason, the records of the committee are a vital part of the history of the college.
