Summary: This series is divided into academic-related and family-related material; thereunder arranged chronologically.
Material relating to Dr. Burks's family, education, and professional activities. The bulk of this series concerns Dr. Burks's academic career, both as a student, from high school through graduate education, and as a professional academic at Rutgers University. Documents concerning his family include genealogical information; estate information for his brother, father, and mother-in law; and papers concerning his relationship with his wife, Jane Lyle Burks, until her death. Document types vary, including newspaper clippings, event programs, curricula vitae, transcripts, correspondence, cards, and legal documents.
Of interest is material generated around the outbreak of World War II, including newspaper clippings, speeches Burks gave on peace during his time at the University of Cincinnati and the University of Minnesota (1936-1942), and Burks's work at the International Relations Bureau while at the University of Minnesota.
