Scope and Contents
Talks of inheriting his talent for poetry from Maty [Mrs. Catharine Hasbrouck], but he has failed to produce a poem worthy of his Grand Niece, Petronella, from whom he has been sent a lock of hair. This is an ironic comment on its coarseness. Inquires as to whether the Hudson is still bridged with ice. "Brunswick is certainly not a very handsome place, as you know, but the climate is very agreeable." He misses Kingston: "One glimpse of the noble Catskills and their gorgeous sunsets is worth the whole valley of the Raritan with its red clay hills and barren fields."
