Scope and Contents
Summary: The General Correspondence series contains letters to Abernethy and copies of letters from him. It does not contain a large body of correspondence with any one person, but letters from people with whom he may have corresponded once or twice. Any larger correspondence can be found under last name in the Subject Files series. The topics of these letters include business and personal matters. Some are related to Rutgers business or students, others to organizations in which he was involved. The correspondence also includes invitations and recommendations for former students and colleagues.

Boxes 1 through 34 are available for access at Rutgers University Libraries, Special Collections and University Archives.
Arrangement
Arrangement: The General Correspondence series is arranged alphabetically. Material in the folders is in reverse chronological order. Although the letters are usually filed by sender or recipient, they are occasionally filed under an organization name or a third party name. The name under which the letter was filed is often found underlined in red ink.
