Scope and Contents

Summary: Consisting mainly of materials written by Vertrees, this series includes published writings, manuscripts and annotations. Two folders entitled "Exhibits from Professional Activities of Joseph H. Vertrees, 1927-1950" appear to have been personally created by Vertrees to document his career, both at Rutgers and elsewhere. These files supplement biographical information found in other parts of the collection inasmuch as they encompass material that Vertrees submitted for books and journals, speeches he delivered, his professional affiliations, reviews of his books, and his reviews of work that was published by others.

Also included in this series are articles that were written by peers of Vertrees and bibliographies of resources on industrial relations that Vertrees apparently deemed critical.

Other noteworthy contents include two issues of the Metropolitan Messenger, a newsletter written for employees of the Western Union Telegraph Company, that feature a foreword contributed by Vertrees.
