Scope and Contents
Summary: Information recorded in these journals reflects the interests and activities of John Wyckoff Durham (first two journals) around 1895 and of Elizabeth Wyckoff Durham from January 1, 1919-July 16, 1919, September 22, 1921-June 1922, intermittently between 1920 and 1928, and 1948-circa 1953, July 1980, July 1982-1983, and July 1985. John Wyckoff Durham used the first two journals as appointment books and recorded appointments in the daily planner section of the journals; while Elizabeth Wyckoff Durham recorded poems, quotations, pressed flowers, discussed NJC (Douglass College) events, and pasted pictures into the pages. In the journal 1948-circa 1953, EWD recorded her feelings about her family and personal life. In the journals from 1980 to 1985, she discussed her trips to different places, including England and Washington, D. C. The journals are recorded in three bound volumes, loose pieces of paper in a manila envelope, and three spiral notebooks. The materials that were inserted in the journals included clippings, photographs, poems, and cards. The items that EWD chose to insert into the journals reflect her personal interests and her personal life, such as her engagement to Charles Chalmers.
