II. Correspondence,, May 1946-January 1948
Dates
- May 1946-January 1948
Scope and Contents
Summary: This series contains seventy-seven letters, a majority of which were exchanged between Elsie and Clara during Clara's nine-month stay in Miami (November 1946 to July 1947). Letters to or from other people are sometimes enclosed in the letters between the two sisters. All envelopes have been saved along with the letters. All of the correspondence was originally housed in a large shoe box. This series provides the most vital information pertaining to the relationship between the two sisters. In the letter of May 22, 1947 (Box 2, Folder 33) Clara states that she has been destroying Elsie's letters once she receives them. This may explain why there are no letters from Elsie to Clara between the months of January and June of 1947.
