IV. Politics,, 1946-1965

Summary: This series consists mainly of letters relating to legislation that Herrmann was working on in the New Jersey state legislature. One of the more important laws on which he worked and thus a sub-subseries in this collection, the Anti-Strikebreaker Law, was an attempt by Herrmann and the various state and national unions to stop non-unionized workers from working when unionized workers had gone on strike. Also included in this sub-subseries is correspondence and newspaper clippings of individual cases of strikes which Herrmann believed could be used to justify passage of an anti-strikebreaker law.

Additionally, the subseries Campaigns consists of campaign material from the various local and state campaigns which Herrmann worked on such as former State Representative Clifford P. Case and former New Jersey Governor Alfred E. Driscoll.

Also in this series is correspondence between Herrmann and General Douglas A. MacArthur, whom Herrmann knew from his service in World War II. Another file in this series is Herrmann's correspondence with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to which Herrmann reported the name of any suspected Communist individuals or organizations.
