Contents include reports, memoranda, correspondence, and statistical reports all concerned with the general issue of decline in the caliber of students and their lack of proficiency in basic skills. Documents represent DC's response to state directives and initiation of Basic Skills Assessment Program.
Noteworthy is Dean Cobb's establishment of a Task Force on Basic Skills and hosting of a conference on the subject. Also included is a discussion of the issue of remedial education and whose job it is - secondary or higher education?
