Scope and Contents

Summary:This series contains much material relating to William H. Martin's career as Dean of the College of Agriculture and Director of the New Jersey State Agricultural Experiment Station at Rutgers University, especially from 1945 to 1960. Key events represented in the Subject Files include Martin's appointment as Dean and Director in 1939; his receiving the Gold Medallion Award of the New Jersey Agricultural Society in 1954; his being honored by the Philadelphia Society for Promoting Agriculture in 1958; the gala celebration, on the occasion of his 1960 retirement, known as the "Martin Mixer"; and the establishment of the William H. Martin Scholarship Fund on the occasion of his retirement. Multiple copies of certain materials have been cross-filed in a few appropriate instances. In these cases, a note in the container list draws the user's attention to which additional file(s) contain the additional copies of the material in question.
